Nextel Phone Safety Tips
Our service technicians have years of experience with repairing
Nextel cellular phones. Recently we asked them to give some
tips on common user errors and how to prevent damage to the
unit. These are from our experience and may not be considered
by other service centers.
Nextel Safety Tips:
1. Vehicle Chargers should be used while the phone is "not"
in
operation. Speaking on the phone with the charging jack
connected makes the phone's charger jack get hot, melting the
plastic and damaging the charging pins. Third party products
have been known to break off inside the unit causing
unrepairable damage.
2. The bottom charging jack must be kept safe. Placing
the unit
in cup holders can destroy the phone if liquid is present. You
may get a charging error if the charging jack is dirty.
You can prevent this by cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and
an old toothbrush. Wiggling the charger plug will only destroy
the unit.
3. The biggest cause of flip damage to a Nextel cellular
is
extending it beyond its capabilities. While using the phone
in
a vehicle, be careful not to press the flip hard against the ear
as this causes stress on the flip and will eventually crack it.
The
new i730 has a metallic case and does not have this problem.
4. Know the difference between Signal Insurance and the
maintenance plan. Signal Insurance is for units that have
been
water damaged or crushed beyond repair. It can be added to any
Nextel cellular by calling 1-800-639-6111.
The maintenance plan (NSP) covers simple repairs like broken
flips, antennas, housings, phone swaps, info swaps, speaker
replacements, and LCD screens. It can only be added to whole
accounts and is $2.50 per phone. Call 1-800-639-6111 to add it
to your account. A Step Replacement is for new phones under 30 days
and
having less than 400 minutes. Use your phone manual to find
out how to check the minutes.
